Signs Your Genie Roller Replacement Is Failing

• Grinding or scraping sound when the door moves. This is the ball bearings inside the roller giving up. Once the bearing race breaks down, the wheel stops spinning freely and the stem starts grinding against the track.
• Visible wobble or play in the wheel. You can check this without tools: with the door down, grab a roller stem and try to wiggle the wheel side to side. More than a few millimeters of movement means the bearing is shot.

• Flat spots on the roller wheel itself. Run your hand along the roller surface with the door closed. Any indentation or flat section tells you the wheel has been skidding instead of rolling, and that roller is finished.

The bottom bracket on a Genie door is under torsion spring tension, and removing that roller without releasing the spring correctly is how people end up in urgent care. The top rollers sit inside the track radius, where the door’s full weight rests when it’s in the up position. You cannot reach them safely without bracing the door and removing the track bolts in sequence.
